Southerland Dominates at Midwest High Performance Series

---

Making her indoor season debut, Nicki Southerland dominated at the Midwest High Performance Series #3 to the tune of two wins in the 800m and 1600m. The Delta High School senior and Notre Dame commit also ran the new #1 times in Indiana in both events.

Southerland started off by running in the 800m where she dominated for the victory, running a time of 2:12.49. This is the new Indiana #1 time this season by over 4 seconds. Her time of 2:12.49 also ranks her as the US #25 time this 2023-24 indoor season.

It is also a historically great time for Indiana as it ranks as a top ten-time all-time in Indiana if Southerland hadn't already tied the state record last season.

Her time of 2:08.85 ranks her among the elite in Indiana, but also ranked her among the elite during the 2022-23 indoor season. Last year, she ranked as the #7 800m runner in the country and also finished 4th at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

In the 1600m, Southerland set a new standard for Indiana this year, running a time of 4:54.31, winning by 31 seconds in the process. This beat out the old Indiana #1 time set by Ava Jarrell just two weeks ago with her time of 4:55.84.

This was a new indoor 1600m PR for Southerland, after running a time of 4:55.31 last year, but also running faster in the slightly longer 1 mile race where she ran a time of 4:45.36 at last year's New Balance Nationals Indoor.

Her time of 4:54.31 this season, ranks her #21 nationally this season and is less than 5 seconds from the top ten.
